'The noir system' is a total incursion into my own unconscious, a resurrection of phantasms and visions. It revolves upon the ultimate vision that one can have, when regarding the shapes in the bright sun. The light is shading some of the details evoking some esoteric states of mind. The noir system is talking about photographic delirious encounters, under a tempestuous sun & dark swift shadows hiding great enigmas. It is the way in which I regard surrealism today: dark, quantic, photographic, a conjuncture between metaphysical & pop grunge in the wasteland we call unconscious. During the quarantine I had the time to introspect more and I began writing a surrealist novel that summarizes parts of my inquired unconscious. I wanted to illustrate some of the paragraphs so I made digital collages that eventually turned into ‘noir paintings’. There is a fine line between consciousness and unconscious; getting past it allows for revealing truths that can be perceived and explored. Contemplating upon my inner creative mind allows me to enter, discover and experiment different mental states that I try to understand and paint afterwards. I could say that I am using the paranoid critical method to inspect my own memories from the past; I’m looking back to question my identity through the filter of surrealism. My portrait is a leitmotiv in this body of work, as I place myself as a character in distinct situations, sometimes facing issues encountered during my childhood that are impossible to fix in real life. I also draw my inspiration from photography, using this medium as a means of appropriation. I believe that any image representing the world is spectacular and when recontextualized it leads to a whole new and exciting universe. I want my work to reconfigure the history of human knowledge, as it talks about archetypes, dream-like states, visions, alchemy and tarot.
